Semiconductors Japan 2000 publication
Semicon Japan was held once more at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Tokyo from the 6th (Wednesday) through 8th (Friday) in December this year.
Semicon Japan beamed with pride over the international exhibition of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and materials where 1,506 companies from 25 countries participated and which attracted 110,000 (1999 figure) visitors. Hirata Corporation’s participation focused on robots used in semiconductor manufacturing: wafer transport system, SMIF opener, FOUP opener, single purpose robot and other suggestions that offer limitless possibilities for the coming 21st century to the customers.

Completion of new plant to expand and strengthen production capabilities
New factory is completed at Kumamoto Plant to address the various equipment investment requirements to reinforce the production capacity of liquid crystal and semiconductor for industry. The new plant is a 2-story building with a total floor space of 10,000 square meters.

Flexible robot for the assembly of car engines
A flexible robot for use in the assembly of car engines is undergoing development at the regional consortium research development division which implements an integrated development approach using new energy and production technologies in joint collaboration with the Kumamoto University and Tohoku University. The system could support process changes such as insertion of piston in cylinders without the use of jigs, production of multiple product types of engines and other such changes autonomously. The system is intended for application in engine assembly equipment in the future.

Joint research with Matsushita on recovery of parts mounted on the print board
A facility to separate and recover parts mounted on print boards of household electrical appliances called “Parts Separator” is now undergoing development in collaboration with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.
