 Challenge 25 Campaign

In September 2009, Japanese government has set the goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels in United Nations Climate Changes Summit held in New York. Therefore, national project “Team Minus 6%” which Hirata has been engaged on to prevent global warming changed to “Challenge 25 campaign” starting in January 14th, 2010. The purpose of this campaign is CO2-reduction and Hirata continues to join the campaign.

Hirata joined CSCI(Climate Savers Computing Initiative) which promotes
energy saving and prevention of global warming

As part of efforts for saving energy and prevention of global warming, Hirata has joined Climate Savers Computing Initiative(hereinafter called CSCI) in October, 2008 and the whole Hirata group involves in the reduction of greenhouse gas caused from power consumption by using computers.

 Environmental Load Reduction Activities

At Hirata Corporation, each manufacturing plants has acquired ISO 14001Certificates. Hirata sets targets of energy saving and waste reduction and supports environmental activities.

 1. Reduction Targets

The reduction targets of energies, CO2 emissions and industrial wastes in Hirata are shown below.

Reduction item Targets
Total Energy Input Reducing the basic unit by more than 5% compared to FY2009 level by the end of FY2014.
Amount of CO2 Emissions
Amount of industrial wastes Reducing the amount of industrial wastes per unit of actual production by more than 5% compared to FY2009 level by the end of FY2014.

 2. Results of Energy Usage and Emission Volume

Total Energy Input
total energy input
With increased amounts of production, the total energy input(*1*2)as increased, however, basic unit for energy comsumption(energy input per unit of actual production at Hirata Corporation)(*3)has decreased in FY2010.
(Note)
*1 Energy indicates electricity and fuel defined in the Rationalization in Energy Use Law.
*2 The figure of FY2007 is converted based on daytime electricity emission factor.
*3 Values calculated by dividing energy consumption by values closely related to energy consumption such as production volumes and total floor area.(reference : the Rationalization in Energy Use Law)
Amount of CO2 Emissions
team mainus6%
With increased amounts of energy input, CO2 emission has been increased, however, basic unit has been decreased in FY2010.
Industrial Wastes
team mainus6%
With increased amounts of production, the amount of industrial wastes has increased, however, basic unit for energy consumption (energy input per unit of actual production at Hirata Corporation) has been decreased in FY 2010.
